Role Summary:

Dyne is seeking a Principal Scientist in protein engineering to drive new therapeutic molecules for rare genetic diseases. Responsibilities include designing, discovering, and producing candidate molecules, such as antibodies and fusion proteins.

The candidate will support and lead drug discovery projects, working closely with chemists, biochemists, and analytical scientists, as well as disease biologists and pharmacologists. The ideal candidate is innovative, collaborative, and an ambitious self-starter with exceptional communication skills. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to and expand Dyne’s platform technology, advancing life-transforming therapies for neuromuscular diseases

This role is based in Waltham, MA without the possibility of being remote.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Design antibodies, antibody fragments, and antibody fusion proteins to serve as standalone therapeutics or integrate with Dyne’s proprietary delivery platform
  • Oversee production and rigorous biochemical & biophysical characterization of therapeutic protein candidates
  • Hands-on experimental design, execution, and data analysis of studies to drive go/no go decisions as needed
  • Contribute to the discussions and planning of multiple cross-functional projects in either a supporting and/or leadership role
  • Work effectively with other disciplines including biochemistry, disease biology, and safety/toxicology to generate and communicate preclinical data in support of therapeutic development
  • Prepare reports, protocols, and other documentation to support clinical development and manufacturing of lead therapeutic candidates
  • Provide mentorship to junior scientists in the Platform Development group
  • Manage external vendors to supply materials, analyze reagents, etc
  • Contribute to building a positive, team-oriented culture

Education and Skills Requirements:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related scientific/engineering discipline and 6+ years of hands-on experience; or BSc/MSc with 8+ years of relevant industry experience is required.
  • Deep hands-on experience with antibody discovery (display technology or hybridoma) and/or engineering (including affinity maturation, Fc engineering, and related aspects), and protein engineering across other scaffolds.
  • Extensive experience with protein production and purification across different expression hosts and modalities, including early stage cell line development and/or technology transfer to external manufacturing partners.
  • Strong hands-on experience with analytical and biophysical protein characterization techniques (SDS-PAGE, SEC, LC-MS, etc.)
  • Experience contributing to cross-functional drug discovery teams bringing candidate therapeutics from early discovery to IND, including stage-appropriate developability assessments.
  • Experience with antibody-drug conjugates, oligonucleotide conjugates, and/or enzyme replacement therapeutics is a plus.
  • Project leadership experience is a plus.
  • Strong track record of scientific accomplishments with relevant publications and presentations.
  • Ability to critically evaluate, summarize, and interpret data
